about the play
“If somebody would treat his dog the way Petrucchio treats Katharina, he would have the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the police on his back.” (Frank Günther)
Keen on experimenting but still exceedingly according to Shakespeare’s will, the female parts are played by men – the common practice in Shakespeare’s time - and the lovers represented by women.
In this way, the content of the play is placed in a different light.
It is a wilde farce, funny and serious, where the comic lies beside bewilderment; a farce about the play in the play, the transformation, looking at something and being looked at.
commentaries of the press
“… the summerplay 2004… well played… a great production thanks to the change of sexes. Worth seeing!”
