Theater ASOU is based in Graz, Austria. The company ’s work began with the former aristic
director and founder of the theatre company Abel Solares ( Teatro Vivo, Guatemala) as a
response to Eugenio Barba’s Theatre Anthropology.
In the company’s ensuing attempts to realize their own theatre, they had invited a variety of
teachers/directors/writers from various backgrounds to teach and collaborate with them in
workshops and/or through creating per formances and theatre projects:
Catherine Coray (NYU, USA), Sharon Fogar ty (Mabou Mines, USA), Mitsukata Ishii (Tokyo,
Japan), Augusto Omulu (ISTA, Brasil), Kaite O’Reilly (UK), Walter Pfaff (Parate Labor, Swiss),
Stephen Wangh (NYU, USA), Moe Yamamoto (Kanazawa Butoh Kan, Japan), Yumiko Yoshioka
(Germany, Japan), Phillip Zarrilli (Univ. of Exeter, UK/USA).
Since 1994, Theater ASOU have successfully presenting their work in Austria as well as
abroad in Venezuela, Columbia, Costa Rica, USA, Canada, Germany, Albania, Hungary,
Romania, Poland, Russia and Japan.
